Student/Parent Handbook 2026-2027

The Sierra Vista Elementary Student/Parent Handbook includes important information about school procedures, expectations, attendance, student behavior, visitors, volunteers, cell phones, dress code, weather procedures, and other family information.

Families are encouraged to review the handbook at the beginning of the school year and use it as a reference throughout the year.

School Hours

Students may enter the building beginning at 7:30 AM. The warning bell rings at 7:35 AM, and full-day K–5 classes begin at 7:40 AM. Dismissal is at 3:05 PM.

There is no student supervision before 7:30 AM. Students should not be dropped off before that time.

Attendance

Regular attendance is important for student success. Please contact the school office as soon as possible when your child will be absent.

Students are counted as tardy if they miss 1–90 minutes of the school day. Students must be at school for at least 3 ½ hours to be counted present for a half day.

End-of-Day Changes

Please notify the office of any change to your child’s end-of-day routine. Last-minute ride changes must be submitted to the office no later than 2:00 PM, so staff has time to notify your child.

Without notification from a parent or guardian, students will follow their regular dismissal routine.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome at Sierra Vista Elementary. All visitors must check in at the office, provide a valid photo ID, and wear a visitor badge while at school.

If you would like to visit a classroom, please call the school in advance to arrange a visit with the teacher.

Volunteers

Volunteers must complete the district volunteer approval process before volunteering at school or attending school activities as a volunteer.

Cell Phones and Personal Items

Cell phones must be turned off and stored in backpacks during the school day. Students may not use phones to call, text, take pictures, record, play games, or access apps during school hours.

Students should keep toys, electronic games, and other distracting items at home unless the teacher allows them for a special purpose.

Student Behavior Expectations

Students are expected to be active learners, support learning for themselves and others, make safe choices, show respect, and take care of personal and school property.

Sierra Vista recognizes students who demonstrate the Hawk Values: Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Excellence.

Dress Code

Students are expected to dress in a way that supports the learning environment. Clothing may not advertise drugs, alcohol, vulgar language, or violence. Hats and caps are not worn inside the school building unless it is a recognized hat day.

Weather and Recess

Students go outside for recess unless weather conditions are unsafe, such as rain, lightning, wet snow, ice, or a temperature or wind chill of 20 degrees or below.

Please send students with coats, hats, and gloves during cold weather.

Lunch and Food Information

Breakfast and lunch are free for students this year, including milk. Families may send a cold lunch, but peanut-based foods are strongly discouraged because of severe peanut allergies.
