Academic Programs and Student Support

At Sierra Vista Elementary, our academic programs are designed to help students build strong foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

We use district-adopted curriculum resources to provide consistent instruction across grade levels while also responding to individual students' needs.

Literacy

CKLA: Core Literacy Instruction

In kindergarten through fifth grade, Sierra Vista uses Amplify CKLA for core literacy instruction. CKLA supports students in building knowledge, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and foundational literacy skills.

UFLI: Phonics and Decoding

In kindergarten through second grade, Sierra Vista uses UFLI Foundations to support phonics, decoding, and early reading skills. UFLI helps students learn the sound-spelling patterns they need to become accurate and confident readers.

Mathematics

Ready Math: Core Math Instruction

Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, Sierra Vista will use Ready Math for mathematics instruction in kindergarten through fifth grade. Ready Math was adopted by the district in April 2026.

Ready Math supports students in developing a strong understanding of math, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning.

Assessment

Students are assessed three times each year to help teachers monitor progress and plan instruction. Parent reports from these assessments are available upon request.

For literacy, Sierra Vista uses DIBELS 8 and the i-Ready Diagnostic. For math, Sierra Vista uses the i-Ready Diagnostic.

Assessment information helps teachers identify student strengths, areas for growth, and any additional support students may need.

Student Support

Some students may need additional academic support beyond core classroom instruction. Sierra Vista provides targeted support through our Title I interventionist, who works with students in small intervention groups.

Our Exceptional Student Services team provides specialized instruction and support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Specials and Counseling

Sierra Vista students participate in Physical Education (P.E.) and STEAM courses. These classes give students opportunities to build physical skills, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on learning.

Students also receive school counseling lessons and support. Counseling helps students build social skills, problem-solving skills, emotional awareness, and positive relationships at school.

Supporting Student Growth

Teachers use classroom instruction, assessments, and student work to monitor progress and provide support when students need additional help or enrichment.
